Study abroad from Bangladesh for a master's: a plan

A month-by-month style plan for a master's abroad: choose a field, shortlist programmes, prepare tests and documents, apply for funding, and get the visa. No invented deadlines.

A roadmap drawn on paper with a laptop, a notebook and a small globe

Quick answer: plan a master's abroad about a year ahead. Work in this order: field, shortlist, tests, documents, applications and funding, offer, visa. We state no deadlines, because they differ for every programme and change each year.

The plan

Months 1 to 2: decide

  • Choose your field and the type of master's (course-based or research).
  • Read what employers or doctoral programmes expect from this degree.
  • Check the entry requirements for your degree and grades. See study abroad after bachelor or honours.

Months 2 to 4: shortlist and test

  • Make a list of 8 to 10 programmes in a few countries, and narrow it to 4 to 6.
  • Check tuition, living cost and work rules for each. See cost of living in Germany for a budget example.
  • Book and prepare the language test. For options, see study abroad without IELTS.

Months 4 to 7: documents and applications

  • Write a statement of purpose for each programme, not one for all.
  • Ask for references early, and give referees your CV and deadlines.
  • Prepare certificates and transcripts. See how to attest certificates.
  • Apply, and keep a table of deadlines and logins.

Funding in parallel

After the offer

Common mistakes

  • Applying to programmes whose requirements you have not read.
  • Choosing a programme only for its scholarship.
  • Leaving the visa until the last month.

Main idea: a calendar with real dates from each programme page turns the plan into progress.

Update log

  • 30 October 2026: written; scheduled for 7 November 2026. Amounts and dates change, so check the official page before you act.
