NID correction for passport and visa applications
Why a mismatch between your NID, certificates and passport causes trouble, and a careful order for correcting it. No fees or dates stated: check the Election Commission pages.

Quick answer: passport and visa offices compare your name, date of birth and parents' names across documents. If your NID differs from your SSC certificate or passport, fix the wrong record before you apply. NID corrections are handled by the Bangladesh Election Commission. We state no fees or timelines, because they change and we did not read the current official notice.
What usually goes wrong
- A spelling difference in your name or your parents' names.
- A different date of birth between the NID and the certificate.
- A missing or incorrect field, such as a father's or mother's name.
A careful order
- Compare the documents side by side: NID, SSC and HSC certificates, birth registration and passport. Mark every difference.
- Decide which record is correct. Usually the education certificates and birth registration are treated as the base. Changing a certificate is harder than changing an NID.
- Read the official correction process on the Election Commission's NID service pages, and note the documents it asks for.
- Collect the supporting documents and keep copies.
- Submit the correction through the official online service or the local election office, and keep the receipt.
- Wait for the corrected record before you apply for a passport or visa.
- Check the result. Make sure every document now matches.
If you need a new passport after the correction, see passport application and renewal and e-passport fees and delivery.
Common mistakes
- Applying for a passport first and correcting the NID later.
- Paying a middleman who promises a "fast correction".
- Correcting the NID to match a wrong certificate.
Main idea: make every document say the same thing before you submit any application.
