Scholarships for Bangladeshi students after HSC: what you can apply for
Many scholarship lists mix up undergraduate and master's programmes. Here is what an HSC graduate can actually apply for, how to plan, and what to avoid.

Quick answer: after HSC you can apply for undergraduate programmes, mostly government-funded scholarships from countries such as Türkiye, Hungary, China, Japan and South Korea, plus university merit scholarships. Many popular names on "scholarship lists", such as Chevening, Commonwealth and DAAD, are for people who already have a bachelor's degree, so they are not for you yet.
Details, amounts and deadlines change every year and differ by country, so this page shows the structure and how to plan. Read each programme's own page before you act.
What an HSC graduate can apply for
| Type | Examples | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Government-funded, undergraduate | Türkiye Scholarships (Türkiye Burslari), Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary), the Chinese Government Scholarship, MEXT (Japan), the Korean Government Scholarship (GKS) | Each has its own application window, quota and country rules. Check the official page for the Bangladesh route. |
| University scholarships | Merit or need-based awards at universities in Malaysia, Australia, the UK, Canada, the US and elsewhere | Often partial. Apply to the university, usually together with admission. |
| For graduates only (not yet) | Chevening, Commonwealth, DAAD graduate programmes, Fulbright Foreign Student | These need a bachelor's degree. Keep them for your master's. |
On their official pages: the Türkiye Scholarships site lists associate, bachelor's, master's and PhD levels, says applications are made online and are free, and describes selection as competitive and merit-based. The Stipendium Hungaricum page says tuition is covered and accommodation is supported, and it pointed to a 2026/27 call at the time we checked. Neither page gave amounts or dates on its front page, so read the call for applications.
How to choose
- Check the level. The programme must accept undergraduate applicants.
- Check the language. Some courses are in English, others begin with a language year. Ask what is required.
- Check what "fully funded" means. It usually does not include flights, visa fees or all insurance. Write down what you must still pay.
- Check the calendar. Many windows open months before the intake and close early. Put the dates on a calendar.
- Apply to several. Scholarships are competitive. Pick a mix of ambitious and realistic options.
Documents you will usually need
- HSC and SSC certificates and transcripts, often attested and translated (see our guide to preparing documents).
- Passport with enough validity, passport photos, recommendation letters, a study plan or motivation letter.
- A language certificate if the course asks for one, and a medical certificate if requested.
A 12-month plan
| When | What |
|---|---|
| 12 to 9 months before | Choose three to five programmes and countries. Read the official pages. |
| 9 to 6 months | Start language tests if needed. Request transcripts. Draft your motivation letter. |
| 6 to 3 months | Ask for recommendation letters. Get documents attested and translated. |
| Application window | Apply early, upload clean scans and keep a copy of everything. |
| After results | Prepare for the visa and plan your budget. |
Mistakes to avoid
- Paying an agent or a "processing fee" to be "selected". Official applications for the large government programmes are made on their own sites. Read how to spot a fake offer.
- Using one essay for every application.
- Missing attestation or translation, which costs weeks.
- Trusting a list you cannot trace back to the official page.
Main idea: after HSC, look at undergraduate programmes of governments and universities, keep the graduate-only scholarships for later, and start about a year early.
